AGSA Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate the corrosion inhibition and absorption action of ethanol extracts of ripe and powered plantain (Musa Paradisiaca) peel on mild steel in 10Ml HCl acid solution. This corrosion inhibition study was carried out using weight loss method, at ambient temperature, with various concentrations of the extract and at different immersion times (24hrs, 48hrs, 72hrs, 96hrs and 120hrs). The result of the study showed that the Musa paradisiaca peels extract acts as a good corrosion inhibitor. As the concentration of the inhibitor increases, the inhibitor efficiency also increases while the rate of corrosion decreases. It was concluded that Musa Paradisiaca peels extract can be used as corrosion inhibitor and still keep the environment free of toxic chemical inhibitors. The use of peels extract as corrosion inhibitor was recommended for use in the process industries.
